Key Activities: Community Outreach Programs: Conducted 35 regular community awareness campaigns to educate expectant mothers on the importance of antenatal care (ANC) visits and safe delivery practices. Organized 3 community dialogues in collaboration with local community leaders to raise awareness about maternal and neonatal health, reaching over 800 community members. Antenatal Care (ANC) Clinics: Hosted weekly ANC clinics in Kawempe and Kamuli, offering free prenatal check-ups, counseling, and early detection of high-risk pregnancies. In this third quarter, we had a total of 43 antenatal mothers of which 24 of them were new attendances and 19 were continuing mothers. Provided nutritional supplements and essential medications to pregnant women attending the clinics to promote maternal health and fetal growth. Ensured access to clean and safe delivery environments at local healthcare facilities, promoting institutional deliveries. Through our VHTs Conducted follow-up visits to mothers in their homes, offering support, guidance, and additional resources during the postnatal period. Maternity clinic In this quarter, we conducted 19 deliveries. In the month of June,2023 we had 6 deliveries (normal delivery) whereas in July 2023 we had 3 mothers for normal delivery, August 2023 we had 7 deliveries with one cesarean section and 3 deliveries in September 2023. Success Story Sarah, a 25-year-old woman who lives in Kawempe was pregnant with her first child when she started attending antenatal care at a CFU-medical centre. Sarah was diagnosed with preeclampsia, a serious pregnancy complication that can lead to eclampsia, a life-threatening condition. Thanks to the early diagnosis and treatment she received at the CFU medical centre, Sarah was able to safely deliver a healthy baby boy. Sarah is grateful to the Saving Lives at Birth project for saving her life and the life of her son. Impact The Saving Lives at Birth project has had a significant impact on the lives of women and babies. The project has helped to reduce maternal and neonatal mortality rates, and has improved the quality of maternal and neonatal care services in the region. Conclusion The Saving Lives at Birth project is a vital initiative that is helping to save the lives of women and babies in Kawempe and Kamuli. CFU is committed to continuing to work with the USAID FHI 360, KCCA and Ministry of Health to ensure that all women and babies have access to the quality care they need.
