Greetings from St Martins School and the Kibagare Community.
The beginning of the year 2024 started well and despite the various challenges facing the people in the Kibagare Slum, they are hopeful that the year will be a good one.
The school has reopened and most of the children have reported back to school for the first term of the year. So far the children are doing well in school and will break for a short mid-term break on the 29th of February 2024.
Poverty, lack of employment, and feeding are still a major challenge for this community. For the children, we are still feeding them during the Saturday feeding program and the number has continued to increase every weekend. We are feeding between 1500-1600 children every weekend.
Inflation has slightly reduced in the last three months and with the expected long rains from March this year it is expected that people will start preparing their shambas for this planting season.
We are grateful thus far we have come thanks to the support we have received to date and we hope to continue serving this community to the best of our ability.
Thank you,
Alfred Aswan.
