We are thrilled that Dr. Sakena Yacoobi was awarded the Opus Prize on November 13. The Opus Prize honors unsung heroes for their entrepreneurial spirit as they address today's most persistent and pressing global issues, including poverty, illiteracy, hunger, disease, and injustice. The prize is well-deserved recognition of Dr. Yacoobi’s life work and the life-changing work of the Afghan Institute of Learning, one of the projects that you support with contributions to The Safer World Fund.
Like other nonprofits in the Safer World Fund, Dr. Yacoobi’s Afghan Institute for Learning (AIL) believes that educated people are the key to success for Afghanistan. With that in mind, AIL works to empower all Afghans who are needy and oppressed by expanding their education and health opportunities and by fostering self-reliance and community participation.
***On Tues, Dec 3, take advantage of two matching programs to help the AIL project Send 30 Girls in Pakistan to School. MicroSoft YouthSpark will match donations up to $1000 at 100 percent, plus the 50 percent match from the Safer World Fund will apply. The Ayni Education International project Help Educate 28,000+ Girls in Northern Afghanistan also qualifies for the two matching programs!
***This year for the holidays, why not honor a family member or friend with a gift card from Global Giving and tell them about the important work of the Afghan Institute of Learning and all the other great projects in The Safer World Fund? Don’t forget that we continue to match 50 cents on the dollar for donations up to $2000!
