Political unrest in both Afghanistan and Pakistan has been in the news lately. Who will be the next president of Afghanistan remains unresolved several months after the election, and young people involved in uprisings in Pakistan express deep unhappiness with that country’s leaders. We want the people of Afghanistan and Pakistan to resolve their political disputes, but how can they best prepare to be open to compromise and appreciate different political views?
As you know, The Safer World Fund supports a number of nonprofits that strive every day to encourage advances in education, health care, and training for people in Afghanistan and Pakistan, especially women and girls. Investing in girls will help open opportunities for communities to live in peace with possibilities for all. An educated woman teaches her family to respect different points of view. Check out these amazing stories and updates from the nonprofits benefiting from your generous donations:
Education may seem like a simple action in a nation ravaged by war for the last several decades, but we have seen tremendous change in the status of girls and women. Providing quality education experiences is about more than just getting more girls into the classroom; it is about empowering them to be free, creative thinkers who can engage in the public discussion of their country’s culture and politics and be respected and heard.
Every day your support is allowing the Afghan Institute of Learning to make a huge impact on the lives of the women and girls who come to our learning centers. Every student is unique, and skills that students have before starting classes vary greatly, as do the goals of each woman. Some come to the center to learn to read, write or sew. Others come to learn math, computers, physics, or chemistry.
Thank you for being a supporter of the promising opportunities an education provides for girls and boys around the world. And starting September 1st, all contributions to The Safer World Fund, and the projects that comprise it, are matched 50 percent, giving an extra boost to the impact your contributions will have.
With best wishes,
Joyce Manchester
