Dear Supporter,
We have recently been working on a renovation project here ar Mmakadi Creche. There was a spare room that was unusable that we have fixed up so that the children and teacher have more room to learn and play.
Gloria often has to look after 50+ children at a time, making it a very tight and uncomfortable squeeze in one room. It was especially bad on rainy days when the children can't go outside, which often meant that children wouldn't attend on bad-weather days.
Having a second classroom for the children to learn in was becoming a priority. The old classroom had fallen into disrepair and was unusable because it didn't have a roof, so it was only being used for storage.
We consulted with Gloria and decided that we would focus on fixing up and making the storage room into a functioning space. The roof has been repaired and the room has been painted with lots of bright colours and educational material on the walls, and the children are now making good use of it.The children love the new room, and we have seen them trying to convince Gloria to let them have all of their lessons in there!
Now that Gloria has two classrooms to use, she will be able to stay open more of the time, providing education for the young children throughout the year. It is a win for everyone!
With Gratitude,
GVI South Africa
