Dear Supporters,
We are very happy to bring you news of our new fence! During May and June we successfully managed to put up a fence at Magapane Crèche. The fence serves to form a boundary to protect the children from the livestock that roam free in the village.
The fence line project has the volunteers working long hours under the African sun. It involves a lot of hard work but is rewarding and enjoyable. And it is always so rewarding to see the faces of the teachers and students when a project like this is completed. The fence has been put up to stop livestock from entering the centre and to provide a safe environment in which the children can play.
Our future plans for the Creche are to build them a classroom. They currently don’t have a proper classroom and gather in an extremely informal environment that is not conducive to learning and development. This also means that children often don't go to creche when the weather isn't good.
As part of our objectives at GVI we aim to get more involved with the local community and after the classroom is done we will start with educating the children at the centre. At Karongwe we believe an extremely important part of conservation is the education of the local community, especially the children. As it is these people who will one day be responsible for the preservation of South Africa’s flora and fauna.
We can't wait to start teaching these children about conservation in their new classroom!
Thank you for your generous support!
With Gratitude,
GVI South Africa
