A Scholarship for A Child To Go To School in Afric

Introduction 

South Africa has a rich conservation population that will become increasingly threatened if we don't work together to educate and create awareness. It requires long-term investment and multi-party engagement, which is often hard to achieve when such a high percentage of the population is living in poverty and without access to any form of wildlife or conservation education.

Engagement is key and we will do this through classroom learning combined with a practical education in the environment itself. Our engagement with these young, developing minds on topics such as ecology, pollution & poaching will help to cement the importance of preservation of their natural world. We will inspire, educate and train the change-makers of tomorrow, today. It costs the program $50 to send a local conservation specialist or game ranger to a local township school to talk about the effects of rhino poaching on the ecosystem.

Introduction 

Education is limited and under-resourced in communities that have huge conservation on their doorstep. In South Africa alone townships up in the Kruger national park have never seen a lion and have no awareness of the issues the Big 5 face. Down by the Ocean communities see the sand but never stepped foot and again clueless the impact throwing a plastic bag on the floor can do to our planet and ocean. The only way to tackle this is Education & Awareness.

In response to the national lockdown in 2020, online sessions of our Junior Biologist and Smart Living courses for their Grade 5 and 6 learners was introduced. In 2021, the Foundation expanded its offering, by including taking mobile puppet shows to the Grade 1 to 3 learners, as well as offering our Marine Science Explorer courses to Grade 8 and 9s. These exciting offerings and activities are actually available to children of all ages through the Foundation's educational offerings.
