Promoting conservation through education!
By Shayle Havemann | Project leader

Introduction
Conservation is a collaborative effort between communities, landowners, policymakers, educators, scientists & so on. It requires long-term investment and multi-party engagement, which is often hard to achieve when such a high percentage of the population is living in poverty and without access to any form of wildlife or conservation education. South Africa has a rich conservation population that will become increasingly threatened if we don't work together to educate and create awareness.
Report
With funds raised so far we have purchased 50 conservation books which will be donated to a small community school in a township in Cape Town educating children aged 5 to 12 years in conservation topics.

The positive impact can be seen in our classes through the change of attitudes towards the environment these children live in. We hope to engage & excite as many students and teachers as possible to preserve their natural resources, ensuring survival for many generations to come. A donation of $50 covers the cost of sending a local game ranger to a local school to talk about protecting rhino and the consequences of rhino poaching.

Report
Partnered with local schools, we will work with them to make improvements on the availability of resources for quality environmental conservation education. This involves classroom learning combined with a practical education in the environment itself. Our engagement with these young, developing minds on topics such as ecology, pollution & poaching will help to cement the importance of preservation of their natural world. This month unfortunately one of the farms lost 3 rhino to poaching so we supported them with 3 months salary for emergency response anti poaching rangers to protect the rhinos that are left!
