Improving education in India

By Maisie Mayne | Fundraising intern

The Problem:

Imagine a country where many people can't read or write. That's the challenge in parts of India. About 35% of people there are illiterate, meaning they haven't learned these important skills.
Why is this happening?
Money Troubles: Many families live in very poor areas, earning very little money each day. They can't afford to send their kids to school.
School Struggles: Some kids start school but then have to stop (drop out). Sometimes, the schools aren't very good, especially in the early years.
Costly Higher Education: If someone wants to go to college or university, it's often very expensive.
Brain Drain: People who do get good educations sometimes leave India to find better jobs in other countries. This makes it harder for India's economy to grow.
The Goal (SDG4):

The goal is to make sure everyone has access to quality education. This is also known as Sustainable Development Goal 4.
The Solution:

This group is working with schools and other organizations in India to help.
Here's what they're doing:
Scholarships: Giving money to students of all ages so they can go to school.
English Lessons: Teaching English, which can open up more job opportunities.
Improving Schools: Helping schools get better by providing resources and training for teachers.
Providing Educational Resources: Supplying books, computers, and other things that help students learn.
The Plan:

They want to help kids get good educations, which will lead to better jobs in the future.
They want to keep in close contact with the schools and the people they are helping, to make sure the help they are giving is the right kind of help.
They want to give more children from poor areas the chance to go to school.
They want to lower the number of children that drop out of school.
They want to increase the number of people who can read and write.
They want to help improve India's economy.
The Progress:

They're trying to raise £3,568 to reach their goal.
So far, they've raised £1,178 from 8 donors.
They have 2 fundraisers working to help them.
They have been working on this project for 4 years.
In simple terms: They're trying to give kids in India a better chance at life by helping them get a good education.
